Hi Guys,

I need to know the best way in which i can prepare myself for the IB Maths and Physics (HL) on my own, without any external help. Is it even possible. Those who have completed it, please let me know and what did you focus on to score high?

I'm looking for IB Maths and Physics HL level preparation in Doha (Qatar). I'm an NRI and have many other friends who are taking classes for these, but i want to study myself.

Any experience on this? Anyone?

  • The key to every IB course preparation is understanding the syllabus and its content. IB maths and physics is all about practicing, so practice as much as you can. Solve previous year question papers for both the subjects and mark the ones that you have got wrong. Try to understand it and solve it later which will help you in better understanding of that problem.

Don’t try to cram as maths and physics are about playing with numbers, concepts and logics rather memorise the key definitions and formulae. The more you practice, the better learning you will develop for solving the questions. For physics, don’t make notes of theories instead list down the important formulae and practice diagrams.

Get workbook and past papers to practice as format for question papers are often similar. And if possible, you can join some online courses to prepare for IB which gives you a flexibility to discuss and resolve your doubts from anywhere and anytime.

  • Here I will give you the preparation basics for the both the subjects separately.

For IB Maths- Firstly try to explore and understand the syllabus. The best way to prepare for IB maths is to solve question bank. Since maths requires a lot of practice so practice it on daily basis. Try to solve at least 10 questions every day. Do not panic if you get stuck in any problem rather ask and clear your doubts from your teachers and friends. And the most important mantra of maths preparation is practice and lots of practice. The more you practice, the more your problem-solving skills will be polished.

For IB Physics- For Physics, I would suggest you go through the syllabus first and understand it. Choose a good book to prepare for the course and understand the concepts clearly. Make notes of important definitions and formulae instead of memorising everything. Try to understand the equations and how to apply the formula because you will already be provided with a formula booklet and choosing the right formula is Important. And most important, practice physics questions papers and try to finish them in given time frame.

For ex., if time frame for paper is 2:15 hours, then try to complete it within 2 hours. And once you are done with practice paper, then mark the wrong answered question and clear your concept on them.
And at last, you can also join online IB classes for both the subjects for a better preparation.
