Which program is better IB or GCSE? I need to choose among these for my child. Can anyone tell me which one will be better for us and why?

My planning is to send him to US universities after writing SAT examination. Considering this scope what do you think which will be better for him among these IB or GCSE?

  • In every way, IB is a better program than GCSE. GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education and is taken up at 9th and 10th level whereas IB program can be taken from any academic level till class 12th. GCSE program is specialisation in a subject whereas IB consists of six subjects.

Many colleges and universities give credit to IB certificate whereas there is no credit for GCSE. IB is a comprehensive program that provides college level course to students and prepares them for college level studies. And, moreover IB is internationally more recognized as compared GCSE and is thus far better than it.

  • Since GCSE is taken up to the age of 16 years and IB up to 18 years hence there is no comparison between IB and GCSE. But still, if you ask me which one is better then I would give thumbs up for IB. IB is best suited for students who are all-rounders.

IB program contributes in overall development of students and prepare them for college level courses. It focusses on holistic approach towards a subject along with its relation to the world which helps the students to apply their knowledge on solving real life problems. It also focusses on writing skills and critical thinking thereby enhancing the writing skill and creativity of the student.
