How many students follow IB curriculum in India? Any idea, because i think the most of the students in India are from CBSE or ICSE or other state boards. So are there any students who are willing to take admission in IB there?

  • It is difficult to get the exact number of students opting for IB. However, the trend is on the rise every year.

Again the number will depend on the plans of the students. Those planning for JEE or other Engineering courses, IB may not be the right choice.

Also, the admission time will be clashing for other streams like arts, commerce, law, etc. The IB marks are released as late as July every year, the admission for other courses would have completed. The students opting for IB are mainly from CBSE/State boards.

  • Most of the Indian Universities have at least theoretically approved IB as a qualifying base for college admission. In other words, in spite of the approval, still, some institutions may not allot admission.

    • The students in IB board students are evaluated based on the grading system ranging from 1-7.  Due weight for the 12th-grade mark is also granted. The predicted score on IB based on the past performance is also a stumbling block for conservative institutions to digest.
Provisional admission is possible to subject to final marks of IB for the students. In various universities, based on these scores.
    • Some of the colleges under Delhi University accept predicted the score of IB for admission, so is the case with Bombay University, Christ University, Ashoka University, NID, NIFT, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Indian School of Design and Innovation, etc.
    • There is also a non-regular IB diploma.

  • More and more colleges and institutions are admitting IB students.

The rise of students is leaving the present course and adopting Cambridge International Examination (CIE), International Baccalaureate (IB) and Edexcel Examination Board are on the rise. Over 3.5 lakhs students sought admission abroad in 2015. The future for IB in India is very good.
