A common question that we get here is how old should a student start preparing for the SAT? A few people think that the earlier the better is the way to go, and others think it helps to hold and retain most knowledge just before the SAT  test.

 

So what's that? Should school-bound students start as early as middle school or as late as a junior year?

 

 

START EARLY

 

We recommend that you begin to prepare for the SAT in the 8th grade. It sounds early, but when a student plans to take the SAT a few times during high school, 8th graduates will take a long-term, relaxed approach to train and schedule their first year.

 

When they struggle with the SAT when they first take it and earn a low score, this shows that a student needs further training and further efforts to take the SAT.

 

 

TIMING YOUR PREP

 

After taking the first SAT exam sophomore year, we recommend taking the SAT exam an additional two times: in the fall of junior year and spring of the junior year. This is the only reason why experts recommend you start early.

 

Taking an intensive exam like the SAT test requires lots of time and dedication to studying. Extensive preparation time for all SAT sections: math, reading and writing, and optional essay — besides taking the SAT multiple times will give school-bound students the best chance at success. We suggest devoting 9-10 hours a week to SAT prep.

 

 

EXTENDED ACCESS
