  • IB offers a full diploma or subject wise individual certificates. There are three or four HL subjects for the full diploma. And for the subject wise test, you can choose two or three SL subjects out of total six.

There is always a clash of dates for AP and IB, and hence proper planning is required when you are trying to crack both simultaneously.

Also, you are not permitted to combine multiple subjects into one exam but to write a separate exam subject wise. Students usually find that JEE is slightly more exhaustive than  IB or AP

  • Essentially AP and IB are different in characteristics. Just to explain further HL maths is suitable for cracking IB (International Baccalaureate) and Calculus BC is fit for AP (Advanced Placement).

As a thumb rule, IB and AP courses do not help you to prepare for any other course. Whereas IB is multifarious testing of knowledge covering more than one area, AP is looking at solution level knowledge. In other words,  IB is to applied knowledge. And AP looks at the problem-solving scenario more.

  • The students who are in CBSE stream struggle for three years with IB coaching but at the end of the day fail to hit the scoreboard. IB is ideal for those who are keen to pursue college studies outside India. But as luck would have it, for JEE coaching has nothing to offer for IB aspirants. Essentially this is because

IB is a great course if you are planning to go abroad, but it is useless if you are planning to do JEE. This is because  only the High-Level maths is somewhat close to the syllabus but not Physics and Chemistry. The lack of proper coaching centres in India aggravates the problem further. Also, preparation of IB alone consumes most of  your  energy leaving very little for doing other courses.

The coaching for IIT is not that useful to achieve a good score in IB. In other words, it is better not to venture to both IIT and IB in one breath. Similarly taking all the subjects in AP and IB in one go is not feasible. There could, of course, be some overlap of subjects with JEE, IB and AP and hence careful analysis of the syllabus is called for before venturing to multi-tasking.
