  • As per the new guidelines of DASA 2021-22, NRI students looking for admission in engineering courses have to qualify for JEE mains, and admissions are based on JEE rank only as per new norms for DASA students.

Earlier Non-Resident Indian students have more options for taking admission in engineering colleges like they can also take engineering admission by clearing JEE mains or they can qualify SAT exam but as per new rules SAT scores will not be considered valid to take admission in engineering courses.

Eligibility criteria for NRI students as per DASA 2021-22

    1. Students must clear class 12th from any recognized board outside India.

    2. Students must have Physics and Mathematics main subjects in class 12th.

    3. Candidates should score a minimum of 60% in 12th grade.

    4. Students must qualify JEE mains exam as per the cut-off.

    5. NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and FN who are residing and studying abroad for the last 2 years can apply.

    6. Students must born after Oct 1, 1995.

    7. Students who appeared for the class 12th exam but the result is awaited and are likely to get the result on Sep 15, 2022, can also apply.

Candidates have to show the following documents for proof

    1. Copy of the Passport of the Parent

    2. Visa of the Parent

    3. Permit of the Parent and

    4. Company/Organization Proof of the Parent to show that you’re working in Gulf

Can NRI studying in India take admission in Indian Universities?

So, as per new guidelines and new eligibility criteria, students have to qualify for JEE mains to take admission in engineering colleges in India. If a student is residing in India and pursuing class 12th from any recognized board of India he/she is not eligible for JEE mains.

As per new rules implemented on DASA only students who are pursuing or completed their class 12th from the foreign board can only take admission in Indian Universities.

The conclusion is that your son cannot take admission in Engineering colleges because he is pursuing class 12th from the Indian board but DASA takes students which qualify or pursue class 12th from a foreign country.
