If x2 - y2 = 28 and x-y=8, what is the average (arithmetic mean) of x and y?
asked Jun 15 12:00:00 AM
Answer is = 7/4
Explanation-
x^2 - y^2 = 28
(x+y)*(x-y) = 28
But
x-y = 8
therefore
(x+y)*8 = 28 (1)
Avarage of x and y means, (x+y)/2
therefore divinding equation (1) by 2
= {(x+y)/2}
= 28/(8*2)
= 7/4
