Equal volumes of two gases which do not react together are enclosed in separate vessels. Their

pressures at 100 mm and 400 mm respectively. If the two vessels are joined together, then what

will be pressure of the resulting mixture (temperature remaining constant)?

    The correct answer is

    D) 250 mm

    SOLUTION- 

    After mixing the volume is doubled so the pressure is halved. ( As pressure and volume are inversely proportional) 

    Hence, pressure after mixing = total pressure/2 = 100 + 400/2 = 250 mm
