    Food Science is the discipline in which biology physical science, and engineering are used to research the nature of food, the causes of its deterioration and the underlying principles of food processing. Food Technology is the application of food science to select, preserve, process, package, distribute and use safe, healthy and nutritious foods.

    research scientist,
    laboratory technologist,
    food health and safety inspector,
    food law enforcement officer,
    food technical manager,
    teacher,
    nutrition advisor,
    production supervisor/manager,
    flavour scientist/technologist,
    sensory scientist

    The salary levels differ according to individual skills, experience, job environment, area of responsibility etc. According to the Graduate Employment Survey; Honor Degree: $3 300 a month on average.

     

    Admission Requirements:

    Students should have been expected to qualify as one of the selected entries in any particular academic year.
    Good H2 pass or equivalent in Chemistry and a Good Pass in H2 or A-level Biology or Computing or Mathematics or Further Mathematics or Physics.

    For International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Good Pass in HL Chemistry and Good Pass in HL Biology or HL Computer Science or HL Mathematics or HL Physics

    Polytechnic graduates in accredited diplomas with good results may also apply.


    Admission Application (Direct Admission):

    From AY2017/18, both the primary major in food science and technology and the second major in food science are directly admitted through the University Admission Exercise.

    Applicants must select "Science (Food Science & Technology)" as one of the course options when applying through the online application portal during the University Admissions Exercise prior to the deadline.

    Admission is based on academic merit as well as on open competition between all eligible applicants.

    The University may also consider applicants for admission on the basis of other merits other than academic results on a discretionary admission (DA) basis. The eligible DA candidates will be selected for an admission interview on the basis of evidence of their merits.
