Dear Mr. Ashok. This is quite common these days and im taking based on my experience so far. In our group also, many students headed their way to India. 

Here, you need to know one thing which is quite important for you to know. Most of the parents who are sending their childrens back to India are because of Medical stream. At least ive seen this. 

Enginnering College Options - Common among the OCI childrens are NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other engineering colleges in India because of DASA Scheme (Direct Admission Students Abroad) by MHRD India. 

Medical College Options - Since its very expensive in US to get into Medical Colleges most of the NRI students in US write and prepare for NEET exams online. 

So, largely you are rigth and this is most common these days.
