  • Yes, The International Baccalaureate (IB) is considered good in India. More details can be had from http://www.ibo.org/university-ad.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is making efforts to get recognition for its programme in all countries including India. In India, the details are available in English.

Technically all Indian universities accept the IB Diploma as equivalent to Class 12 qualification from an Indian board like Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), and state boards. Most of the institutions do stipulate some additional parameters than the IB score for admission.

The IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma has been recognised by the AIU as an entry qualification to all universities in India since 1983  which was renewed in 2010.

According to AIU Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics and English at the qualifying level of streams. The candidate should approach the particular institutions to ascertain their admission process. A hard copy along with transcripts would be required.

  • IB. IGCSE is only to prove that you cover the minimal education requirements (regarding Britain). A-levels would also be more challenging and useful when applying to college.

Some colleges don't accept IB, but I have no idea what IGCSE is. I'm taking the Advanced Placement (AP) route.

Even though the popularity of the IB programme is on the rise, sone institutions are reluctant to accept the same as the basis for admission. Some resistance is out of ignorance while others are out of conservative attitude.

  • Even though IB is approved by many Universities in India, the following are the lacuna associated with the same:

    • Expensive: The cost of OB is roughly ten lakhs Rupees a year which is far beyond the reach of middle-class parents. If you are lucky and meritorious, you may get scholarships and subsidies.
    • Difficulty in getting a high score:  Unless serious efforts are put in getting good score id=s difficult.
    • You have to pick up the subjects very carefully to get a reasonably good predicted score.
    • There could be a clash of dates with other entrance exams.(like IIT, JEE, NEET etc.)
    • The challenges to switch over from other board to the IB stream.

  • I do not know much about IB curriculum acceptance in India but since i'm studying in Muscat for a long time, i can say that IB is one on the emerging curriculum and widely accepted by NRIs (Indians) in Oman (Muscat). So i can figure out that probably its also accepted and picking up in India too.
